Our blend of corn, barley, wheat, and rye creates a balanced flavor with depth, complexity, and the smooth, rounded character that keeps surprising first-time tasters. Our master distiller began with a clear ambition: “I wanted to take a traditional Appalachian corn whiskey approach, but elevate it with superior grains and water, paired with aging at elevation.” That vision comes to life at Rick Thomas Distillery in Black Hawk, where carefully selected 100% Colorado grains and water from Black Hawk’s mountain watershed lay the foundation. Aging at 8,655 feet adds the influence of our mountain home, where dramatic temperature swings shape the interaction between whiskey and oak. Distilled on Scottish Forsyth copper pot stills, this corn whiskey has Appalachian roots, but a distinctly Scottish touch. Named for the year that helped define Colorado’s gold rush heritage, 1859 honors the resourcefulness and independent spirit of those who came before us.
